Captain's Day
The weather held fair for our Captain, Kevin Turner's, day on Saturday, as nearly 200 golfers from across all categories of the club enjoyed the Captain's Prize competition on both courses.
It was Kieron Davies (pictured) who has been threatening to win for a number of weeks, and shot 40pts on the West course to take the top prize.
On the day the Captain's charities benefited greatly from our members generosity, with Sam & John doing a fine job on the par 3 challenges.
The results are as follows.
East 1st - John Reeves - 38pts* 2nd - Ralph Bull - 38pts 3rd - Neville Diffey - 36pts* 4th - Ben Price - 36pts
West 1st - Nigel Gill - 38pts 2nd - Peter Blake - 37pts 3rd - Pete Wilder - 35pts* 4th - Paul Greenwood - 35pts
The Sundridge Park Trophy
The Sundridge Park Trophy Team of David Blair, Mark Peache, Paddy O'Connor, John Heywood, Mickey O'Rourke, Alan Westhead, Bernie Rowland and Bill Wardrope comprehensively defeated a very good team from Royal Blackheath GC by a margin of 7 - 1. The Semi Final will be on the East Course against Wrotham Heath, on 27 July 2016, at 14.00, all supporters welcome.
A couple of holes in one to report on over the last few days. Ellis Cameron in the Midland Youth Championship, at Stoke Rochford, on the third hole; a 7 iron from 155yds. Yours truly, on the 11th East, in a Captain/Pro match on Sunday (a wedge) a first for both of us. No prizes for guessing who is who.
By the way I was using the new Truvis Chrome soft from Callaway for only the 2nd time, this is a really great ball and highly recommended.
Is Form A Pre-requisite To Open Championship Success?
Having spent Monday and Tuesday filming at Troon yesterday I got a unique insight into what I think it might take to win this week, with Dustin Johnson having won the last two tournaments and standing on the 6th tee yesterday and listening to his coach, Butch Harmon, waxing lyrical about how DJ is driving it as well as Tiger in his prime, it seems difficult to look past him as the next champion golfer.
