Well done to Ingrid Long who beat Nikki Bell from Nizels in the final of the gold division of the Kent County Knockout tournament, the Three Feathers.
She was helped on the day by her caddy Christine Edgar.
Golfers use their putter significantly more than any other club. However when choosing this vital club many golfers opt merely for the 'Pro Shop Waggle' or maybe a few putts on the practice green, with little or no idea of the many different specifications available and the effect they can have.
Connor O'Dowd made the best choice - he booked a Putter Fitting with us last weekend. Connor felt it was time to invest, hoping for improved success on the greens. He had been using a 36 inch blade style putter with a very slim grip, a 60 degree toe hang, 4.5 degrees of loft and a 71 degree lie angle.
After a discussion of his strengths and weaknesses we analysed Connor's putting style using our state of the art SAM Putt Lab system and drew some conclusions:
- The 36 inch length was too long and compromising his set up and stroke consistency.
- The blade style head with that 60 degree toe hang was encouraging far too much rotation of the putter head, thereby compromising direction
- The 4.5 degree loft was too high for him, making pace control difficult.
The new fitted putter (after testing of course) is a 34 inch long, face balanced mallet, with 2.75 degree loft and 69 degree lie angle. Connor can rest assured that his new Putter is going to give him every chance of starting the ball consistently on the line he has chosen with a good speed.
Would he have come to the same conclusions without a fitting......?
