First of all this week, well done to Sandra Nadin who shot 35pts to take the Ladies Stableford from runner-up Ingrid Long who shot 34pts.
The second and final Xmas lunch of the year took place on Sunday, with one of the highlights being our Captain Richard Toogood leading the room with a very good rendition of 'Have yourself a merry little Christmas'.
You might notice a little difference when you play the 14th East next time. As you see from the photo's, our forester
Terry Gladwell has taken a mature conifer out adjacent to the front left of the green. Terry planted the tree about forty years ago himself, but due to the trunk showing signs of splitting (better to be safe than sorry) and the tree also denying the green enough light, it was decided to take it out.
20 more yards for Nick Glover because he didn't buy off the shelf! Nick Glover was interested in a new driver having heard great reviews of TaylorMade's latest offerings.
Nick was using a 9 degree head with a 60 gram regular flex shaft. This club produced a highest ball speed of around 119 mph with a 12.5 degree launch angle.
The new version provided more than 125 mph ball speed on virtually every shot which should of course have sent the ball much further down the fairway. However the ball flight was far too low with this club (around 8 degrees), quite different from its predecessor. Had Nick simply bought the updated version off the shelf he would have only seen improvement when driving downhill, or if perhaps when playing on concrete.
Using our launch monitor we chose the correct loft (10.5 degrees tilted to nearer 12) to achieve the optimum launch angle. Now of course the ball was flying well beyond any he had hit previously. We also opted for a more suitable shaft which increased his club head speed and improved the consistency of strike.
So if you fancy an extra few yards and a few more fairways do the same as Nick...book a fitting...
