32nd AM-AM
The 32nd AM-AM event was one of the most successful ones held so far and an amazing amount of money has been raised (exact amount to be confirmed) - the Overall winners were the Weapons of Grass Destruction team of Ben Price, Upin Dattani, Pete Wilder and Martin Clark. I caught up with Martin who played with Upin on the East course amassed an impressive 43pts. "It was a simple case of ham and egging it" said Martin, "every time I blew out Upin somehow made a nett birdie and vice versa, it was just one of those days." Ben & Peter shot 41pts on the West for an 84pts total.
Runners-up were Cops & Two Bandits Graham Melvin & Jim Cullen (the two former policemen) along with Steve Allport & John Foreman (the bandits). The team shot a total of 81pts.
Third place with a total of 79pts was the DunBarWhiWal team consisting of that form man again Darren 'Bomber' Dunnett, Tommy White, Marlon Barnard & Joe Wallis.
Many thanks must go to this year's AM-AM Committee of Alex and Rose Yazdani, Rob Sargent and Martin Clark who made the event such a great success.
Commemoration Bowl
Kim Morris took the Commemoration Bowl with a fine nett 71 on the East course just pipping Shirley Beglinger who shot a nett 72 in the Silver section. In the Bronze section it was Wendy Yuen who took the top spot with a nett 77 with Michelle Quinlan the runner-up with a nett 80.
Medal Goodwill Salver & 4 Seasons
The Ladies Medal Goodwill Salver & 4 Seasons was played recently on the east course, with Bassey Dunbar taking the Silver section with a nett 74 and Carol Clegg taking the runner-up spot with a nett 76. It was Michelle Quinlan who took top spot in the Bronze section along with the Goodwill Salver with a nett 73 with Wendy Yuen runner-up with a nett 75.
What would you like to gain from a new driver?
This is the question we ask at the start of a custom fitting. The answer is usually more distance, accuracy, forgiveness and consistency. That is exactly what Tom Lawrence got earlier today when he came for his first ever custom fitting.
Toms current driver was a 440cc Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 816, 9 degree loft with a 70 gram stiff flex shaft.
The gains in distance were made on two fronts. Firstly through an extra 4 mph of ball speed achieved through Callaway's innovative jailbreak technology. Secondly by swapping a 9 degree head for 10.5 we increased his carry by over 10 yards on average through an optimised launch angle.
This extra loft improved accuracy for Tom by reducing curvature (think how much less a 9 iron curves in flight compared to a 5 iron). More forgiveness and consistency also came from a larger 460cc head and an extra stiff shaft to suit Tom's 110mph plus club head speed.

GolfSixes
There's a different flavour on this week's European Tour as the first GolfSixes tournament takes place at the Centurion Club in St Albans. Two-man teams from 16 countries will battle it out at the Centurion Club north of London over two days this Saturday and Sunday to be crowned the inaugural GolfSixes champions on the European Tour.
The matchplay competition will be played to the Greensomes format with both team members driving off at each hole, choosing their best tee shot and then playing alternate shots from there.
On day one, the 16 teams will play in four groups of four, playing each other over a set of six holes. The top two teams from each group at the end of the day will progress to the knockout stages on Sunday.
The final day will see quarter finals, the semifinals and final, plus a 3rd/4th place playoff. As per the name of the event, each of these sprint matches will be played over six holes.
England will start as the Number 1 seeded pair and the home nation will be represented by Chris Wood and Andy Sullivan. Other strong pairings include Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee and Kiradech Aphibarnrat and the French duo of Alex Levy and Gregory Bourdy.
The tournament will have a distinctly different feel to regular European Tour events with players walking on to the tee accompanied by music and pyrotechnics. A shot clock will be in operation with players having just 40 seconds for each shot.
