Taking Shape
The course is in great condition at the moment, here are some wonderful photos of the course taken by David Brenes.
Bowater Senior Challenge Cup
Six gross birdies helped Billy Walton shoot a very fine nett 67 (bogeying the last two holes too) and secure a runaway victory in the Bowater Senior Challenge Cup on Saturday played over the East course. Runner-up was Paddy O'Connor on countback with a nett 70 despite two double bogeys, with Martin Clark taking third spot. Mark Clark was fourth on countback with a nett 71.
Hicks Trophy
In the Hicks Trophy (a bogey competition) the result was a tighter affair with Graeme Everett +1 just pipping Brian Chessum also +1 on countback. Third was Allan Robb on countback 0 from fourth place Ralph Bull 0.
Midweek Medal
Will Edmonds fine recent form continued last Thursday when he shot a nett 67 on the West course to win the Midweek Medal. Pat Melly shot a nett 68 to take the runner-up spot from Mark Rowe on countback both having shot nett 68's. Special mention to one of our juniors Ellis Cameron who shot an excellent nett 67 (unfortunately he wasn't eligible to win the competition) reducing his handicap to 3.4.
Bradley Cook Team
So far so good for the Bradley Cook team, who have just qualified for the knockout stage of this year's competition. The triumphant team consisted of Ainee & Nancy O'Connor, Tit McCart, Kim Morris & Rachel Martin. Our group had consisted of Sundridge Park, Wildernesse and Mid Kent, with each team playing each other home and away. We have won all our matches to top the group, with Mid Kent narrowly beating Wildernesse to second spot and a place in the parallel plate.
Gray Team
Commiserations to the Gray team who lost their first round match against Rochester and Cobham G.C. 5 - 3.
The team were as follows John Dunne, Ray Walker, Scott Hopkins, Bill Murdoch, Jeff Thomas, Nick Jones, John Emly, Andy Morris, and reserve Aidan Lee.
Nordea Masters
Last week's winner Alex Noren headlines the Nordea Masters in Sweden alongside world number five Henrik Stenson at Barseback G&CC The Nordea Masters is back this week, taking place at Henrik Stenson's home club: Barseback Golf and Country Club just north of Malmo.
The world number five headlines a strong field including last week's winner and new world number eight Alex Noren. Noren shot a final round 62 last week at Wentworth to win the BMW PGA Championship for his ninth European Tour title. He won this tournament in 2011 and 2015.
Stenson came T3rd at Wentworth after a solid week at a course he's had little success on, the signs are that his game is looking closer to its best after a poor start to 2017 by his standards. The Open Champion told the European Tour, "It feels good to be back in Sweden and Barsebäck again. It's extra fun to play on the golf course that I grew up on and I'm looking forward to the week.
"Thanks to all the golf that I've played here I know where to place the ball and where not to be and how to adjust myself to the greens and fairways and so on. So it's an advantage to have played at Barsebäck."
Last year's winner at Bro Hoff Slot, Matt Fitzpatrick, is at Barseback to defend his title after a final round 66 led him to a T12th finish at Wentworth.
