Greetings from Stuart Dowsett
Sundridge Park Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

It has been an outstanding week for both team and individuals from our club.

Firstly the team. The Sundridge Park Trophy Team won a dramatic final against Wrotham Heath GC played at Rochester & Cobham GC, with the scores finishing 4-4. It went to countback on holes won, and last man Bill Wardrope needed to win by at least three holes for SPGC to win the trophy for the first time since 2007. Bill duly chipped in for a winning Birdie on the 16th Hole, thus ensuring that Sundridge won the Trophy by the narrowest of margins.

The Team that won the Final were David Brenes - Dave Spooner - Dave Nash - Daren Moseley - John Heywood - Bernie Rowland - Mickey O'Rourke and Bill Wardrope - and during the successful campaign, Trevor Heath - Alan Westhead - Huw Evans and Paddy O'Connor played in the Sundridge Park Trophy Team. Well done team!

There have been two superb performances from young golfers representing Sundridge Park over the past week as well.

Firstly, Luke Spooner won the Kent Youth Championships played at Knole Park Golf Club last Friday. Starting his morning round with a double bogey on the 1st, he kept focused to finish the round 1 over par 71, which put him 5th overall and 4 behind the leader. It was in the afternoon that Luke with 5 birdies and just a single drop shot stamped his authority on the tournament, just missing out on equalling the course record when lipping out on the 18th. However he was more than happy with his performance winning by a stroke in the gross and on count back in the nett for a clean sweep.

The week was capped off, with a superb performance in the Faldo Series from Ainee O'Connor, at Holinwell Golf Club in Notts. The Faldo series takes place in 30 countries worldwide, with 40 tournaments being held for more than 7,000 young golfers each year. At each tournament, the top two girls and three boys win a trip to the Grand Final hosted by Sir Nick himself. Past winners include Rory Mcllroy and Yani Tseng. This tournament has World Amatuer Ranking points up for grabs too.

After an opening round of one over, Ainee swept throughout the field to become the joint leader with a superb second round of three under par. The young Sundridge Park golfer made a start to the final round which most tour players would dream of while in contention, when three birdies in the first five holes opened up a five shot margin over her nearest competitor. A birdie at the final hole, completed a fantastic week for the sixteen year old with a four shot victory, The Greenbier club in West Virginia, now beckons for her in October. Outstanding work!

Meanwhile at the club, it was Dave Gibbons who took the honours with an excellent 40pts in The McMillan Trophy on Sunday. Nick Greenwood was the runner-up on count back from Peter Young both having shot 38pts, James Horgan was fourth with 37pts, again on countback.

It was a close finish in the RNLI Stableford as Kim Morris beat Jan Young in the Silver section both having shot 36pts. In the Bronze, Lynn Burrill took the top spot with 36pts with Pauline Howes shooting 35pts to take the runner-up spot.

The European Tour travels to the Czech Republic this week for the inaugural D+D Real Czech Masters at the Albatross Golf Resort in Vysoky Ujezd. It's the penultimate week of qualifying for the Ryder Cup.

With only two weeks left until the automatic qualifiers for Paul McGinley's Ryder Cup team are confirmed, this is a crucial week for those on the fringes of the side.

Stephen Gallacher of Scotland, Jamie Donaldson of Wales and Holland's Joost Luiten will all tee it up at the Albatross Golf Resort hoping to boost their chances of earning a place at Gleneagles next month.

Donaldson is currently just inside the qualification line - 8th on the World Points List - Gallacher is just outside in 11th spot and Luiten is a little further back in 15th.

This is the first time the European Tour has visited the Czech Republic since the Czech Open of 2011. That event was won by Oliver Fisher and the young Englishman is looking forward to returning to the country where he picked up his first Tour title.

"It will be nice going back to the Czech Republic. A few of my friends are coming out for the week," he said. "Winning there in 2011 was great. It showed that I could win. That was the biggest thing for me - to show that I could do it. The win in the Czech was my first European Tour win and it will always be a great memory."

Designed by Keith Preston, the course at the Albatross Golf Resort opened for play in 2009. At some 1,400 feet above sea level, the players could find the ball flying slightly further than usual here. It's a testing course though with seven large lakes acting as protection, together with a selection of well-placed bunkers and 1,200 newly planted trees.

As well as being a simply incredible Scrabble score, Vysoky Ujezd is a beautiful and historic village in the Beroun district, on the outskirts of the Czech Republic capital of Prague. The first written mention of the village dates to 1310.

Player Watch:

David Horsey - The Englishman won in Russia at the end of July and recovered well after a poor start in Denmark last week. He'll be looking to improve his current position of 55th on the Race to Dubai.

Eddie Pepperell - The young Englishman had a poor start to the season but has found some form in the last couple of months. He was tied 6th at the Nordea Masters in June and tied 4th in Denmark last week. Look for him to push on this time out.

Rikard Karlberg - The Swede hasn't had many starts on the European Tour this year but he's made the most of them. He's picked up €162,000 in just eight events and he was tied ninth last week.
