It was a case of déjà vu for Ainee O'Connor who produced a magnificent performance and showed nerve to secure a place in the Faldo series final for the second year running. In a three round event played at an incredibly windy Pyle & Kenfig GC in Wales. After a sluggish opening round, Ainee produced by far the best performance in challenging conditions on the second morning to hold the joint lead going into the final day. With the top two going through to the final and Ainee one of three contesting for those places, nerves showed. Samantha Fuller from Roehampton GC won the tournament with Ainee ending up in a play off having finished joint second with Victoria Mallett from Sutton Coldfield Ladies GC. The good news was that Ainee held her nerve to make a par on the first extra hole, to win the play off and to secure a trip to the final. Well done Ainee a great start to the season.
Another excellent result this week for another one of our youngsters
Michael Lawrence who has decided to take his chances in the pro ranks. In pre qualifying for the Europro Tour at Woldingham GC he shot a superb 142 total for 36 holes to finish only one shot off top spot. More importantly he has progressed to final qualifying at Frilford Heath next week. I will keep you informed of his progress. Well done Michael, a great start to your career.
Tita McCart and Kim Morris represented Sundridge Park in the Ladies' London Foursomes at The Berkshire Golf Club on Friday, 27 and Saturday, 28 March. On Friday morning, they played against Betchworth Park and won 5&3. In the afternoon they faced Wentworth GC, and continued their good form winning 4&3.
On a windy and somewhat grey Saturday morning, they met strong opponents from Guildford Golf Club and in a tight match they came out on top 3&2. That win set up an afternoon quarter final against Worplesdon Golf. Unfortunately this is where our ladies run to the final came to an end, losing 3&2 to two excellent golfers in a hard fought match.
