Greetings from Stuart Dowsett
Sundridge Park Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

A big thank you to Yonex for setting up the clinic given by two time Solhiem Cup professional Becky Brewerton, it was a truly outstanding event. During her clinic not only did Becky give out some great tips, there was some great insights into how to deal with 1st tee nerves (including a great story about teeing it up in front of 25,000 people at the Solhiem Cup in Sweden), and fighting the yips with her driver. But perhaps the highlight of the day was when Becky drove the 2nd on the West, she missed the putt but still very impressive indeed.

Have you seen the tour players on TV lining up putts up by holding their fingers up? That system is called Aimpoint and we have an opportunity to bring an Aimpoint coach here to the club to conduct a course. There will be a maximum of ten people for this one off event at a date to be determined. There is a cost of £100 per person and what I would like is to compile is a list of interested people so I can secure a date in this coaches busy schedule.

Ray Reding was on fine form when shooting a nett 67 to win the Bowater Cup at the weekend. 69 was the next best score and countback determined that Ryan Welch was the runner-up. Steve Instrell was in third place and Billy Walton fourth. Being played simultaneously the Hicks Cup (a bogey competition for 13+ handicappers), was won by Nick Clode with an excellent score of +6, runner-up with +3 was Matthew Truran, Chris Saunders took third with +1, and fourth was David Fyfe with 0.

The Ladies Mail on Sunday team marches on as they reached the sixth round of the competition following a tight 3-2 win against a strong Warley Park team from Essex. Well done to the team of Kim Morris, Anne-Marie Forrester, Christine Edgar, Lyn Baimbridge and Tita McCart who braved strong winds to record some excellent wins (the losses went to the 18th).

Congratulations to Kim Morris who shot a fine 38pts to win the ladies Stableford played over the West course last week. Rachel Martin was the runner-up with 36pts.

The European Tour heads for Sweden this week and the 25th edition of the Nordea Masters. Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee defends the title at PGA Sweden National in Malmo.

A strong field will contest this tournament with the home nation being well represented. Henrik Stenson will start as favourite, but Robert Karlsson and Alex Noren, who is making an impressive comeback from injury, are also in the field. Last week's Irish Open champion Soren Kjeldsen will be looking to continue his good run of form and other big name players teeing it up include: Victor Dubuisson, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Thomas Bjorn.

First contested on the European Tour in 1991, Colin Montgomerie was the inaugural winner of the Nordea Masters, then called the Scandinavian Masters. Since then there have been many notable victors, including Nick Faldo, Lee Westood, Graeme McDowell, Adam Scott and Luke Donald.

Last year, Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand came through a playoff against Scotland's Stephen Gallacher and Victor Dubuisson of France. Jaidee fired a superb closing round of 65 to set a clubhouse total of 16-under-par. He then birdied the first extra hole to win his sixth European Tour title.

The tournament will be contested over PGA Sweden National's Lakes Course. Opened for play in 2010 it's a superb Kyle Phillips design featuring large bunkers and water hazards. The fairways and greens are populated with natural creeping bent grasses.

The weather forecast for the week looks settled so play should not be interrupted. The wins are set to be relatively light which will be a great relief for many after the gusts at Royal County Down last week.

Player watch:

Alex Noren - A former winner of this event, the Swede is enjoying a good season as he returns to the Tour after injury. He was tied eighth at Wentworth and tied 21st last week in Northern Ireland.

Rafa Cabrera-Bello - The Spaniard was tied ninth in this event last year so clearly likes the course. He was tied fourth at Royal County Down last week, missing the playoff by just a shot.

James Morrison - The Englishman may have missed the cut in Northern Ireland but he won in Spain and then was tied 11th at Wentworth the two weeks before. He'll look to bounce back this week.
