Over 50's Championship
A full field assembled for one of the most eagerly anticipated competions, the Over 50's championship. Played over the East course, there were challenges to test almost all the competitors.
The runaway winner of the Scratch prize with a Gross 72 was Andrew James with John Heywood picking up 2nd place with a gross 81.
The handicap prize was closer affair, it was Bill Wheeler who took the Giddings Trophy with a Nett score of 69 on countback from Runner-Up Roger Hambridge who also shot a nett 69.
Gray Cup Team
Congratulations to the Gray Cup Team on winning their semi-final tie at home against Mid Kent in a very convincing result 6 - 2.
This result disguises the score which saw 5 convincing wins, 2 halved matches, and a very narrow loss by 1 hole.
The Team Captained by Chris Hurren was; Phil Baines, Neville Diffey, Lee Westwood, Ralph Bull, Clive Aird, Nick Jones, Andy Morris and John Dunne.
The Final is at Mid-Kent and all the news will be posted here.
Royal Blackheath Trophy Team
Unfortunately the Royal Blackheath Trophy team couldn't repeat the result attained by the Gray Team as they bowed out at the semi-final stage losing 5-3 at Mid Kent.
Mid Kent put out a very strong team and their local knowledge was decisive, particularly on the greens where they putted excellently. Our team fought valiantly and most of the matches were close encounters, three ending on the 17th green and one on the 18th.
Overall a good performance from a mostly new team. Well played and better luck next year to the squad of James Horgan, Jeff Wright, Geoff Sandford, Norman Taylor, John Mack, Peter Mehaan, John Davidson, Clive Wood, Frankie Quinn and John Coole.
Mid-week Medal
After a chipping lesson, David Fyfe won the midweek medal with a fine nett 67, I can't take any credit though as he said he put the win down to a better long game, oh well! Dave Baxter took the runner-up spot with a nett 68, with Danny Dunbar pipping Marlon Barnard to third place on countback both having shot nett 69's.
Janet Alldread shot a very steady nett 69 to win the Silver Division of the Ladies medal played over the West course, a close second was Sandy Charlick who shot a nett 70. The Bronze division was won by Rose Yazdani with a nett 70 with Julia Low taking the runner-up spot with a nett 73.

The European Tour moves on from The Open Championship this week and heads for Switzerland and the Omega European Masters at spectacular Crans-sur-Sierre.
After a Monday finish at St Andrews, many of the players have had little time to catch a breath as they move on to this week's challenge. High in the beautiful Swiss Alps, a strong field has assembled to contest this event.
Spain's Sergio Garcia and England's Danny Willett will tee it up following their strong showings at The Open. Star names in the field include: Lee Westwood, Patrick Reed of the USA, Jamie Donaldson of Wales and Frenchman Victor Dubuisson.
This is one of the European Tour's oldest tournament venues and has been a fixture on the circuit since the Tour's inception in 1972. Past winners include Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Lee Westwood, Luke Donald and Sergio Garcia.
In last year's tournament David Lipsky of the USA won his first European Tour event by defeating England's Graeme Storm at the first extra hole of a sudden-death playoff.
The event has moved on the schedule this season. It has previously been contested in September. It has moved to July in order to try and attract a stronger field because the event had previously clashed with the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Crans-sur-Sierre has, perhaps, the most spectacular backdrop of any course on the European Tour. The layout dates from 1908, though it was re-designed in the late 1920s then altered by Seve back in 1999.
It's not a long layout but it requires accurate hitting. If a player can keep the ball on track, good scores are possible. Back in 1992, Jamie Spence shot a 60 in the final round to force a playoff (which he then won) against Anders Forsbrand.
The weather forecast for the week looks unsettled with thunderstorms likely. Don't be surprised if there's a disruption to the play. Those who played at St Andrews will be used to that!
Player watch:
Sergio Garcia - He's on great form, as displayed by his fine showing at St Andrews. And he also has form on this course. He won the event in 2005, was third in 2004 and fourth in 2006.
Danny Willett - Another man who will come into this event on the back of a good performance in The Open Championship - he was tied sixth last week. In this tournament last year, Willett fired rounds of 64 and 63 on the weekend to climb into the top five.
Richie Ramsay - The 2012 winner also finished in the top-10 last year. He made the cut last week and has been enjoying a good season.

The Seniors Open
The Seniors Open is a really underrated event. I spent all day there on Wednesday and the atmosphere is just so friendly. With the tournament on over the weekend I highly recommend a day out at the beautiful Sunningdale course. There are some fantastic players there including Bernhard Langer, Tom Watson, Colin Montgomerie and Fred Couples. Also there is Sundridge Park's very own Bob Cameron after coming through qualifying, so if you get to Sunningdale please cheer him on if not, follow his progress by clicking here.
